## UGC creator: what it is and how to become one

 [Create your CV](https://influencerfor.me/creator/register?lang=en)

A UGC creator makes photos and videos for brands, which then use them on their own channels. You don't need thousands of followers: you need believable content and clear agreements. Here is how it works and how to start.

## What is a UGC creator

UGC stands for "user-generated content". A UGC creator is someone who, on a brand's request, shoots videos and photos in the natural style of a real customer: an unboxing, a product test, a tutorial, a first reaction. The brand publishes them on its own channels, in paid ads or on its product pages. The creator is paid for the content and for the usage rights, not for the reach of their own profile.

## UGC creator vs influencer

| | Influencer | UGC creator |
|---|---|---|
| Where the content runs | On the influencer's channels | On the brand's channels and ads |
| What matters | Followers and audience | Quality and credibility of the content |
| What they sell | Reach to their audience | The content and the right to use it |
| Big audience needed? | Yes, or at least a very engaged one | No: the profile is a showcase |

You can do both: many creators post on their own channel and also license the video to the brand.

## How to become a UGC creator, step by step

### Pick your niches

Start with what you know and actually use: skincare, cooking, tech, pets. Brands look for people who are believable with that product in hand.

### Build a portfolio

Three to five short videos made with products you already own are enough: an unboxing, a test, a before and after. Vertical, well lit, with clean audio.

### Learn the formats brands ask for

A hook in the first seconds, the product in hand, one concrete benefit, a call to action. Versions with and without captions, sometimes raw footage only.

### Get found

A CV with your niches, languages, formats and past work, where brands can search for you. On influencerfor.me it is free.

### Put everything in writing

Before shooting, agree on deliverables, revisions, usage rights and fee. That is what sets a professional apart.

## What to agree with the brand before you shoot

The value of UGC depends mostly on how the brand will use it. Settle these points every time:

- Deliverables: number of videos or photos, length, format (vertical or horizontal), edited or raw, with or without captions.
- Usage rights: on which channels the brand may use the content (social, ads, website, marketplaces), in which countries and for how long.
- Paid ads: if the brand wants to run the content as an ad or post it from your profile, it must say so upfront, and it is usually worth more.
- Revisions: how many changes are included.
- Product: whether you keep it, send it back or buy it.
- Fee and timing: amount, when it is paid and the delivery date.

## The rules to follow

### No reviews in exchange for products

UGC is not a marketplace review: reviews on Amazon and similar sites in exchange for free products or discounts are against their rules.

### Advertising must be disclosed

If the content goes out on your profile, label it as an ad: #ad, #adv or the equivalent in your country.

### Only true claims

Show what the product really does. Health claims, promised results or comparisons with other brands must be agreed with the brand and be provable.

## UGC creator FAQ

### Do I need a lot of followers to do UGC?

No. The brand publishes the content on its own channels, so what counts is how the video is made, not how many people follow you. Your profile mainly works as a showcase.

### How much does a UGC creator earn?

It depends on how many pieces you deliver, how much editing they need and above all on usage rights: a video used in ads for a year is worth more than one posted once on social media. Many start by working for the product to build a portfolio, then move to paid work.

### What equipment do I need?

A recent smartphone, good light (a window will do), a clip-on mic if you talk to camera, and an editing app. Start with what you have.

### Can I make UGC in another language?

Yes, and it is an advantage: many brands sell in several European countries and look for native German, French, Spanish or Italian speakers. List the languages you create in on your CV.

### Do I need to register as self-employed?

It depends on your country and on how often you work. Occasional jobs often have simpler options; if it becomes a regular activity, ask an accountant.

### Is influencerfor.me free?

Yes, for creators and for brands. Money matters stay between you and the brand: the platform takes no commission.
